About Canoe Day Trips
The guests staying at Mawimbi Bush Camp can take part in canoeing day trips down sections of the Kafue River from various points. All day trips include the park fees, professional guide, picnic lunch with drinks and transfers back to the starting point.
Types of Canoe Day Trips
Chunga River Trail
(Chunga Point - Mawimbi Bush Camp)
Canoeing gently down the Kafue River absorbing the unspoiled African bush with its amazing variety of birds, animals and vegetation. The river stretch is wide and the water normally flows slow. Approximated time is five hours including short lunch picnic stopovers before approaching the Mawimbi Bush Camp.
- The trip commences at the Chunga Point at 10:00.
- Total canoeing distance is approximately 15-18km.
The Donna River Trail
(Mawimbi Bush Camp – Downstream)
The Kafue River’s beauty shines through the stretch with abundant wildlife coupled on the river’s meandering landscape leading to the islands along the way. A few small rapids can be experienced if one is brave enough to canoe further downstream. The trip commences from Mawimbi Bush Camp at 08:00 and takes you downstream on the Kafue River. You can either stop off on the side of the river or return to camp for lunch.
Total canoeing distance is approx. 15-18km.
Puku River Trail
(Puku Pan Lodge – Downstream)
For those only wishing to get a taste of canoeing adventure, Puku River Trail is is a perfect opportunity to meet the elephants while observing the beautiful landscape and the amazing bird life. This trip is short and it will take approximately 2 hours 30 minutes with a massive adrenaline thrill and excitement.
The trip commences opposite the Puku Pan Lodge at 10:00 and finishes just in time for a picnic lunch on the river banks before a transfer back to camp.
- Total canoeing distance is app 7-8km.
The Labyrinth River Trail
(+-15km south of Mawimbi – Downstream to the headwaters of the Itezhi Tezhi dam)
Adventure enthusiasts will love this part of the river!
With its fast flowing rapids and amazing scenery, this is a real treat for those looking for excitement. You may at times, depending on the water level need to climb out of your canoe and pull it up and over the rocks. But fear not, a professional guide and crew is always close at hand to offer help to those in need of a hand. After your canoe-bound pleasure, you will be met with a packed lunch followed by a road transfer back to Mawimbi Bush Camp.
- Total canoeing distance is app 15-18km.
Fit - Payment Terms
Payment of each reservation shall be made as follows when booked more than 31 days from date of arrival:
- A non-refundable 10% deposit upon acceptance of reservations is to be received by Mawimbi Ltd from the Operator within fourteen days from the date of confirmation- failure to do so could result in automatic cancellation of the reservation being held.
- The balance is due not less than the thirty days prior to arrival.
Payment of each reservation shall be made as follows when booked within thirty days from the date of arrival:
- Full prepayment is to be received by Mawimbi Ltd from the operator within seven days from date of confirmation or prior to arrival in case of a last minute booking. Failure to do so could result in automatic cancellation of the reservation being held.

Fit - Cancellation Terms & Conditions
- Should a cancellation be received between confirmation and 31 days prior to arrival a 10% cancellation fees will be charged.
- Should a cancellation be received between 0-31 days prior to arrival, a 100% cancellation fees will be charged.
Cancellation fees are calculated on the total value of the booking.
