Shaka – 1 x deluxe safari tent

This deluxe flagship tent, overlooking the Zambezi River, is tucked away from the rest of the camp, offering extra privacy. The Shaka tent is an elegant abode, furnished in teak, with a king size bed, two single beds and a lounge area, making it the ideal family unit or secluded couples' retreat. The beautiful en-suite bathroom has a bath and shower.

Bemba – 7 x luxury safari tents

The luxury two sleeper Bemba tents are built on a raised wooden deck to provide guests with optimum views of the river and wildlife from the comfort of their patio. Tents are decorated in a classic safari style and are furnished with either two single beds, or a double bed. In addition, space can be made to accommodate two children on mattresses. The spacious en-suite bathrooms have 24 hour hot water.

Tonga – 3 x self-catering tents

The Tonga tents offer the same style and comfort as the Bemba tents, but with the addition of self-catering facilities. Each unit is equipped with all the necessary cutlery and crockery, and has a private braai area (barbecue) and gas cooker. Currently there is one family unit that sleeps four people in one room, and two that each sleep two people in either single or double beds.

Camp sites

The lodge boasts of 7 camping sites – namely Monkey, Mvuu, Elly, Leopard, Warthog, Croc and Lion. Each site has its own ablution facilities comprising of a hot shower, flush toilet and wash basin. The campsites, situated in close proximity to the Lodge, nestle in thick bush under a canopy of indigenous trees, providing a cool haven from the African sun. Monkey is a grass camping site that can accommodate about five tents, while Mvuu and Elly, situated on the river's edge, can host three and four tents respectively. Leopard can also accommodate four tents. The other three sites are bush camps located at the back of the Lodge. They can each cater for three or four tents.

Facilities Restaurant and bar

The thatched restaurant and bar has a stunning deck that extends over the banks of the Zambezi River. A perfect spot for absorbing those breath-taking sunsets whilst sipping a sundowner, dining out under a canopy of brightly lit stars or for having your early morning coffee. Here the dramatic dawn announces the new day in true African splendour. The bar is open from 10:00 hrs till 22:00 hrs. Guests who are camping or in the self-catering tents are welcome to drop by the bar and restaurant for a meal when they are not in the mood to cook! Advance bookings for these meals are recommended, to ensure complete satisfaction.

Swimming pool

A refreshing swim and nap underneath the shady Leadwood trees is a sure way to relax body and mind – that is provided the elephants are not looking for a mid-day cool down too and are drinking from the pool!

Cell phone reception

Mvuu Lodge is one of the few lodges in the area that has cell phone reception. Wifi and internet connectivity is provided via a modern VSAT system. Wifi is available in designated areas at certain times of the day.

Power

Generator power is provided at certain times during the day but switched off at night. Solar LED lights are situated through the Lodge, camp sites and tents.

A typical angling day at Mvuu begins at dawn, with the boats equipped and guides ready to take you to the prime spots. If Tiger fishing is on the agenda, then a short stop to catch bait fish, such as Chessa, will be the first call of the day.

Boat fleet

Mvuu has a small fleet of boats that are used in fishing expeditions. Each boat is fitted with safety equipment and basic fishing equipment such as rods, reels, landing nets. No lures or spinners are provided. Boats include:

• Tracker boat fitted with an 80hp 4-stroke Mercury engine and Fish Finder
• Two Escapes fitted with 60hp 4-stroke Mercury engines and radios
• Tracker boat fitted with 75hp 2-stroke Mercury engine and Fish Finder
• Greeny fitted with 60hp 4-stroke Mercury engine
• 15 seater pontoon fitted with 2 x 60hp Yamaha engines. On-board facilities include a toilet and a bar

Game viewing

Early morning or evening game drives in an open Toyota Landcruiser are offered into the surrounding Lower Zambezi National Park and Chiawa game management area. These areas are rich in wildlife and are right in the Mvuu Lodge backyard offering guests a chance to spot various game. The most common sights are the ever present impala, kudu, huge herds of buffalo and elephant (herds and single bulls). Lion, leopard and hyena are also often seen in close proximity to the camp. In addition, sightings of the more secretive animals such as genet, pangolin and serval can be spotted.

Bird watching

The Lower Zambezi valley offers a wide range of bird habitats, promising guests exceptional bird watching. Terrain surrounding the lodge include escarpment, riverine, wetland and bushveld,making it a home to a variety of bird species such as starlings, parrots, coucaals, owls, lovebirds, cuckoos, and shrikes. The surrounding bushveld and game park area has many raptors, vultures, ground hornbills, rollers, pheasants, and bee eaters. The river and tributaries has fantastic bird watching such as kingfishers, skimmers, waders, plovers, herons, and the world famous carmine bee-eaters, that nest in the banks near the camp. Whether you are in camp, cruising on the river, fishing or game viewing there's always something to see.

River cruises

The Mvuu pontoon boat is the perfect vehicle for river cruising. It accommodates 15 people and has on-board facilities including a toilet and bar. River cruises are generally done in the early morning or evening and are the ideal way to comfortably cruise the river and enjoy sundowners whilst game viewing.

Canoeing

Canoeing is a great way of experiencing the Zambezi, its wildlife, flora and fauna close up. Mvuu sports its own flotilla of canoes. Although canoeing safaris are not an everyday item on the activity schedule, they can be arranged upon request and tailored to meet the requirements of the guest. Day trips and overnight trips include packed food and drinks.
