This is a selection of organisations in Zambia which have been set up to further their particular developmental goals. They are organised voluntary associations of people registered as a society in Zambia for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic or other purposes. Many charities are devoted to the relief of poverty, disability and sickness, the promotion of good health and the advancement of education in Zambia. Others provide medical care and training to improve the lives of Zambians. Other charities, trusts and societies aim to develop local agriculture and income generation, through self-help programmes, and by encouraging the environmentally sustainable use of natural resources.
Many charities in Zambia seek to improve people’s livelihoods and assist vulnerable individuals and communities with basic needs such as education, water and health care. They raise funds for their work through charity concerts or other events, through sponsorship and through showcasing themselves to the wider public. Some of these organisations are linked to international NGOs who help with fund-raising.
