This contrasts with the traditional practice of using uninsulated conductors separated by air gaps. Aerial Bunched Cable (ABC) is a very novel concept for Over Head power distribution. When compared to the conventional bare conductor over head distribution system, ABC provides higher safety and reliability, lower power losses and ultimate system economy by reducing installation, maintenance and operative cost.
ABC is also considered to be the best choice for Power Distribution in congested urban areas with narrow lanes and by-lanes. Due to its insulation, it is convenient to lay even in densely populated areas with narrow gaps between buildings, where it is usually not possible to run bare conductors.
Aerial Bundle Cables, often referred to as Aerial Bundled Conductors or simply ABC, are cables for overhead line power, so called for combining multiple single core cables together.
