Thorn Tree Safaris allows tourist to cycle through some of the most untouched parts of Zambia on top of the range mountain bikes. Routes range from the sedate to physically challenging, with the backup crew always on hand for repairs and reassurance.

Lusaka to Livingstone – Cycle from the capital city Lusaka, through South-East Zambia and finish at the spectacular Victoria Falls in Livingstone.

Heart Of Africa Route – Malawi Trail – This challenging route starts in the capital Lilongwe, taking you through rubber plantations, cool forest highlands and down to the shores of Lake Malawi. Tanzania Trail – looking out across the stunning Indian Ocean, Tanzania and offers many attractions including Mount Kilimanjaro and the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater

Prana luxury tented camp is set away from town, in the most tranquil of bush settings. With 10 luxury chalet tents that can accommodate a maximum of 20 guests at any one time (double, twin and triple combinations all available).

Facilities include a beautiful swimming pool, lawned area and nightly camp fire, solar heated showers, communal lounge area with books and board games, access to kitchen for self catering or let our resident cooks cater for you on request.

If you truly want to escape it all, there are also three “bush tents” with beds and showers much deeper in the bush. Enjoy the peace, relax and enjoy the tranquility. Game wandering through the camp on a regular basis.

Thorn Tree Safaris also manage Prana House – a 14 bedded self catering house which is available to rent.

These safaris can be taken either from the safety of our vehicles or, for the braver adventurer, on foot. Zambia is one of the few countries in Southern Africa where walking safari’s can be taken.

In this untainted corner of Africa, you can also marvel at millions of fruit bats in migration in Kasanka Nature Reserve; tour the wild waterfalls of Northern and Luapula Province; soak up the sun on the white, sandy beaches of Lake Tanganyika; search for the pre-historic Shoebill in Bangweulu Wetlands; experience our unique culture by meeting villagers and joining cultural celebrations and dances, by prior arrangement with the headmen only; go on a bird watching safari; and much, much more.

Thorn Tree Safaris provide fishing activities in the Chambeshi River of north eastern Zambia, a remote headstream of the Congo River. Lake Tanganyika is also a well-renowned venue for freshwater angling with the sheer number of fish in the lake and the variety of species. Amongst the favourites are the Nkupi, the goliath Tiger fish and, the Nile perch, which can reach up to 80kg in weight. Most species of fish require a great deal of fishing skill to catch.

Thorn Tree Safaris exposes tourists to the great Bangweulu Swamps, which are part of Lake Bangweulu were spinners and lures are the most common method of catching these fish although using light tackle, a fly and a fly-rod is becoming very popular and brings an extra dimension to a very exciting sport.
