The Kafue is a vast and intricate landscape, home to incredible biodiversity and rich ecosystems. Over the years, countless individuals and organizations have played a role in protecting this special habitat and supporting the surrounding communities.
In recent years, we’ve welcomed African Parks (AP), which has taken on the management of Kafue National Park in partnership with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife. Before AP’s involvement, several conservation organizations operated within the park—one of the most impactful being Musekese Conservation (MC).
Founded by Phil Jeffery and Tyrone McKeith—who originally operated as Jeffery & McKeith Safaris and are now part of Classic Zambia—MC has been at the forefront of conservation efforts in Kafue. One of the park’s biggest challenges today is the illegal encroachment of the peripheral Game Management Areas, a complex and politically charged issue that threatens long-term survival of these vital conservation zones.
MC has been an unsung hero in the fight against encroachment, dedicating unparalleled effort and resources to protecting this wilderness. Their work is tireless, often unseen, but absolutely vital. This post is a tribute to their dedication—and a call to support their ongoing efforts.
