CZWDA launched the Sustainable Livelihood Empowerment Project (SLEPS) under its Zero Waste Skills Empowerment Initiative. The co-benefits of the SLEPS are to empower women, youth and citizens in innovative recycling skills and facilitate the creation of green jobs in waste management. At the same time, we educate on reducing waste, reusing goods, composting and recycling items in an effort to improve total waste management and build sustainable and more resilient communities.
Projects might include basket making, clothing sales, sewing goods, upcycling, reusing and recycling of plastic waste and other clothing materials, kitchen gardens and honey production. The projects are also designed to provide ideas, fulfil start-up needs and train people on how to then manage the small projects and businesses. The project targets 3000 people or groups such as waste pickers to benefit in the next 3 years.
