Basic Snake Handling

Basic Snake Handling Skills Training aims to give participants important knowledge that includes safety, equipment mangament and the application of all these tools that will lead to a safe snake capture. These basic techniques with the use of proper equipment and practical skills in managing various species according to their natural behaviour are rewarding and life-saving.

Note:

  • No one will be permitted to attend practical snake handling training unless they have first attended “Snake Awareness & Recognition” and optionally, “Toxinology & Snakebite Management”. Upon completing the other two courses, including “Snake Handling”, participants may wish to commit to becoming a “Snake Remover” for the area in which they live and work. This commitment is subject to conformance with the requirements of the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation (DNPW) and the Wildlife Act of 2016. It will also require some study and a declaration of competence based on both a theory test, as well as a practical assessment. Over and above the described contact sessions, Snakes Alive Zambia can also provide the following at an additional cost

  • All courses are designed, developed and packaged in accordance with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and are currently under scrutiny by the Zambian Technical, Education & Entrepreneurial Training Authority (TEVETA) for accreditation purposes. Research has shown that once accredited, these short courses will be, other than Queensland Australia, the only accredited courses of this subject matter in the world.
