Zambia Catholic University is a privately owned university that was founded by the Catholic Bishops of Zambia, who constitute the Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) now known as the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB). Following many years of consultation and reflection, the then ZEC resolved to establish a Catholic University. The University is registered with the Higher Education Authority.
Zambia Catholic University provides open distance learning as well as evening programs for many that wish to advance their studies. This education system enables students to share their experiences from the work environment perspective. The evening programmes are offered at St. John Convent in Kitwe, a location so central for students around Kitwe to attend the classes that begin at 17:30hrs to 20:00hrs.
The library has flexible opening and closing times. The computer lab is open to students and staff. Zambia Catholic University believes that education is for the integral development of the people in the following areas: social, economic, cultural, spiritual, political and religious.

Zambia Catholic University calendar
The Zambia Catholic University's academic calendar constitutes 2 semesters.
Full-time and part-time programmes
The first semester runs from January up until May, the second semester starts in July to November every year.
Open distance learning
The first semester starts in December, the second semester begins in August.
Entry requirements
For all the degree programs, the entry requirements are a minimum of 5 credits of which Mathematics and English are mandatory. For entry into the professional studies like FIA, one needs to be 16 years old and above.
Accommodation
The Zambia Catholic University does not provide accommodation facilities to students. The university negotiates and enters into contractual agreements with landlords on behalf of students to secure boarding houses which provide accommodation to several students at affordable rentals. The boarding houses have cooking facilities for students wishing to undertake self-catering.
Meals
The university encourages students to cook in their respective boarding houses. The houses are installed with all the facilities students require for everyday living. For students who may wish not to use these facilities there is a canteen within the university premises that provides meals at affordable prices.
