This fishing lodge is just 6 kilometres from the Lower Zambezi National Park which includes Mpata gorge, a famous tiger fishing area. The lodge is 25 kilometres from the upper reaches of Cahora Bassa Dam which is becoming more and more popular as an angling destination.
Fully catered at Tamarindtree
Tamarindtree is a fully catered lodge. There are two large chalets that can accommodate up to eight guests (four in each). These chalets are on the Zambezi River bank under a stunning old Tamarind tree. The style of the lodge is homely comfort in natural tones of stone and wood. Each chalet has two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and a lounge area that can house two extra guests when families of up to six wish to stay together.
Self-catering at Tamarindtree
The self-catering accommodation consists of a chalet with its own bbq/braai area. It has two bedrooms, each with its own separate entrance and en-suite bathroom. There are three beds per room allowing for a maximum of six guests. Linen is provided but guests should bring their own towels. The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas fridge and stove (gas is provided). Kitchen utensils, crockery and cutlery are also provided. There is a 4×4 route to the self catering chalet from the Luangwa Boma or you can arrive by boat (by prior arrangement).
Camping at Tamarindtree
The camp site is along the Zambezi River. This is camping in the bush, so expect to be joined by wildlife, including elephants! Bookings for the camp site are restricted to one group at a time to ensure guests get a personal and private experience. The camp site has flush toilets, a hot and cold water bush shower, a washing up area and a bbq/braai area. Wood for cooking is provided. Note that there is no electricity at the camp site. Campers should bring their own camping equipment as there is none available for hire. There is a 4×4 route to the campsite or you can arrive by boat from Luangwa Boma (by prior arrangement).
Meals at Tamarindtree
There is a central dining room and bar that give an awesome view of the red cliffs which make a stunning backdrop to the Zambezi River. Meal times are flexible to suit guests' needs. Here you'll get a full English breakfast or brunch, a light lunch and a wonderful three course dinner in the evening. Tamarindtree have a great catering team who, with advance notice, will go out of their way to meet specific dietary requirements or requests.
How to get to Tamarindtree
- GPS co-ordinates: S15º38.479′ E030º17.225′
- By air — charter flights can be arranged from Lusaka to the bush airfield at Luangwa Boma which is a seasonal airfield
- By road — travel along the tarred Great East Road from Lusaka for 230 kilometres. Turn off to the Luangwa Boma and follow the road for 87 kilometres on gravel road. There is a filling station at Luangwa Boma. The journey is approximately four and a half hours.
- Boat transfer — A 20 minute boat transfer is available from the Luangwa Boma.
- 4×4 self drive — From May to November you can reach the lodge by 4×4 or a vehicle with high ground clearance.
