For years, Martha Kembo, owner of Summer Pines apartments, has conducted environmental education activities under her non-profit charity, Zambian SciTech Resource Foundation. Martha initiated and registered Zambian SciTech Resource Foundation as a Company Limited by Guarantee to carry out environmental education among local communities. Funds raised from the apartments go towards the development of Chisamba Environmental Park.
Martha Kembo initiated and registered Zambian SciTech Resource Foundation as a Company Limited by Guarantee carrying out environmental education among rural communities in Chongwe and Chisamba districts of Zambia. This non governmental organisation has collaborated with the World Wildlife Fund, and partnered with the WWF Zambia wetlands project, KEPA in Zambia (a Finnish International Development Organisation) and the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA). It carries out training and other natural resources intervention strategies in Nkomeshya Chiefdom of Lusaka Province.
In Chisamba the organisation has collaborated with the Water Department of the Ministry of Water and Energy in rain water harvesting and water conservation matters on behalf of Moombe Zone, as well as training local people from Moombe development zone (Chief Chamuka's area) in organic agriculture, and soil and water conservation.
Currently on its 108 hectares farm, the organisation is raising free ranging milk and boer goats, dorper sheep, local chickens, turkeys, geese and rabbits. It recently introduced a few Friesian / Boran crossed heifers. The farm grows soya beans, maize, and sunflower as cash crops.
