Radio Phoenix was the first independent commercial FM radio station, introduced in 1996. This position has made Radio Phoenix a household name with a listening audience of 75% of a 10 million plus population.
Over the years, Radio Phoenix has grown to acquire five extra FM frequencies. This expansion programme is to cover the entire mining area, all along the railway line to Chillilabombwe and also reaching the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo border in the north.
Approach to radio shows
Radio Phoenix is a highly interactive radio station and encourages the public's participation by giving them a chance to air their views through live talk shows. Audience members can also give their comments and contributions through sound bites with the news bulletins.
Radio Phoenix has a comprehensive and professional news policy that ensures that the station provides responsible broadcasting. All stories aired on Radio Phoenix must be topical, newsworthy, well balanced without emotional involvement. They must be presented in a non-biased, non-partisan manner, with sound bites for authenticity.
Radio Phoenix believe that giving a voice to the voiceless is an essential aspect to their work. It is their aim to positively affect the lives of Zambian citizens through radio content that is developmental, educational, informative and generates awareness. Moving the country forward and out of poverty while tackling major issues such as HIV/AIDS are key to their vision.
