Prana itself takes its name from the Sanskrit for 'breathe', 'vital energy' or 'life force'. Wildlife
There's some Zambia wildlife to enjoy with bird tables dotted around the gardens and outside each tent to attract the varied local bird life. You're likely to see the emerald cuckoo, paradise fly catcher, blue wax bill and the 'go away' bird. Other visitors to the area include elephant, guinea fowl and impala. The Prana approach will appeal particularly to informed eco-aware travellers, as Prana aims to ensure that every visitor 'refreshes their soul' in a peaceful and private environment. Although Prana is such an oasis of calm, it is not far from the many activities in Livingstone if that is what a guest is looking for and the Prana team can help arrange these on your behalf.
Livingstone accommodation – Prana House and safari tents
Prana House has a large Zanzibar style front door leading you through the hallway straight into the open plan dining area. Full length sliding glass doors take you out onto the patio, formal pool and gardens complete with braii and entertainment areas. Off the hallway is the sunken lounge with cozy jet master fireplace and TV. The large family kitchen is fully equipped for self catering needs.
Prana House has four air-conditioned bedrooms, all en-suite or with adjoining bathroom – two twin bedrooms, one double bedroom and a master bedroom with its own outdoor balcony spacious enough to entertain the whole family, with stunning views of the Victoria Falls spray and Zambezi River. This amazing house has been designed with relaxation in mind. Set away from Prana camp to offer complete privacy, it is rented exclusively to one group at a time.
The 10 safari tents are all en-suite, and have solar-powered hot water on demand. All tents have twin beds and comfortably house two adults and a child. The safari tents are offered on a bed and breakfast basis. Privacy has been carefully considered in the positioning of the tents. Seclusion and solitude are pretty much guaranteed at this Zambia lodge. Each tent is tastefully decorated while still maintaining an authentic camping atmosphere. A small covered patio outside each tent provides an area to sit and enjoy the varied bird life, watch the magnificent sunsets and gaze at the incredible night skies.
Eco philosophy
Prana supports the recycling of water and has invested in renewable resources for energy wherever possible. The Zen gardens and water wise plants conserve water, and the hot water and lighting is solar powered. Local and organic produce is sought out as the ingredients for the speciality Zambian dishes at Prana, with herbs from the extensive herb garden. It conserves heat and water as much as possible, reduces oil and gas carbon emissions, composts waste food, recycles, uses biodegradable cleaning agents, sources food locally, offers local employment, teaches staff about green practices, and cares for wildlife in the area.
