Pilates with a View is run by owner Ingrid Puffett, a Certified STOTT PILATES® Instructor, Personal Trainer and Sports Massage Therapist. Sessions take place in the Pilates with a View studio on the Puffett family farm in Chilanga, 25 kilometres south of Lusaka in Zambia. The studio sits on top of a hill in a tranquil African bush setting, with stunning views.
Pilates with a View group classes are kept small — a maximum of six people — so that each client can be given individual attention. About Pilates
Pilates is a form of mind-body exercise that builds on the essence and principles of the late Joseph H. Pilates. It is designed to strengthen the weak and challenge the strong. Pilates builds on strength, flexibility and endurance without risking injury or building bulk. It gives you longer, leaner muscles, better core strength, restoring the natural curves of the spine and relieving tension.
Pilates offers relief from stress and back pain and gives heightened mind-body awareness and increased self-confidence. As well as being extremely effective post-rehabilitation, further benefits are enhanced athletic performance, better posture, improved balance and co-ordination. Pilates is a gradual build up, a layering of strength that is achieved over time. Pilates is not a competition; it is designed to help each and every individual work to their very best.
The STOTT PILATES® method places importance on core stability, the rebalancing of the muscles around the joint, improving the way the body functions, looks and feels and preventing injury. Studio Prices

- Each Class/Session lasts an hour long
- Classes/Sessions are conducted at the Pilates with a View Studio
- For Matwork & Reformer Sessions
Fees
- Private (one-on-one session): ZMW200
- Semi-private (two students): ZMW300
- Group (three to six students): ZMW70 per person
Sessions take place at the Pilates with a View studio in Chilanga. Ingrid does conduct Matwork sessions outside the studio, but only in the Lilayi/Chilanga area. All sessions are by appointment only. A 24 hour cancellation policy applies. Cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance will be charged for, unless of course in exceptional circumstances.
Clothing
Wear clothes that allow you to move freely and are fairly tight fitting, so the instructor is able to see the movement of your spine, rib cage and pelvis. Shoes are not worn when doing Pilates, but socks can be worn and are essential when doing Reformer workouts.
Pilates or yoga?
In some respects Pilates is like yoga. Both are considered mind-body methods of movement, and emphasise deep breathing and smooth, long movements. The difference is that while yoga requires moving from one static posture to the next, Pilates flows through a series of movements that are more dynamic, systematic and anatomically based. Pilates also incorporates resistance equipment while yoga does not.
Combining Pilates with other exercise regimes
STOTT PILATES® is a musculo-skeletal conditioning programme that combines well with cardiovascular exercise. It is also a compliment to weight training programme or athletic training.
Pilates and losing weight
Pilates can be a positive addition to your overall weight-loss programme. The most successful and healthy way to achieve weight loss is to follow a balanced diet combined with an exercise plan that includes an aerobic component and a strength-training component, such as STOTT PILATES® exercise. The muscle toning and strengthening benefits of Pilates perfectly compliment fat-burning activities like power walking, running, swimming or cycling.
Bring the kids
Mums are welcome to bring their children along, but will need to have someone to look after them during the class. The environment is conducive for children, with plenty of space for them to run around and rabbits, chickens, fish, cattle, dogs and cats to keep them entertained!Information
