Main Lodge

This spacious main lodge is a raised, grass-thatched structure with a beautiful teak deck. The main lodge is elevated above the Nangandwe pool, and has a lounge, dining area, bar and a verandah. There is an open air fireplace which is a great gathering place where stories are exchanged under the stars. This is a great opportunity to make friends. Since the lodge is elevated, it offers game viewing and bird watching opportunities.

Nanzhila Plains Safari Camp offers an exclusive vehicle for hire-ideal for guests who prefer flexibility and privacy.

Thatched cottages

The three thatched chalets accommodate six guests and are situated along the tree line, giving guests an unobstructed view of the pool. The chalets are lit with paraffin lamps and hot water comes from donkey boilers. The en suite facilities include a hot and cold shower, toilet and double basins. The cottages are spacious and private with large, comfortable beds protected by mosquito nets.

Safari tents

Nanzhila Safari Camp offers three meru-style safari tents that can accommodate a maximum of six people. The tents have separate, en suite toilets, double basins and hot-and-cold shower areas for greater privacy and their walk in structures provide fantastic views of the bush and the pool. They are lit by paraffin lamps and hot water is provided by donkey boilers.

Guided walks and bush trails

These walks take two to three hours and are within the lodge. The walks take you along the Kasha drainage line and through areas of woodland and open plain. A knowledgeable guide and an armed Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) scout will accompany you to provide safety while you learn about the plants, trees and wildlife.

Game drives

Three hour drives that take place early in the morning and mid to late afternoon, when the wildlife is most active. Explore an area within a 35km radius of the lodge and focus on larger mammals as well as unique birds and trees. Nanzhila Safari Camp uses comfortable, custom-built open 4 wheel drive safari vehicles that can move in the hardest terrain to get you as close as possible to the wildlife.

Night drives

Offered as an extension of the afternoon drive, incorporating a sundowner, or as a stand-alone after dinner activity. The safari vehicles are equipped with a powerful spotlight that the guide uses to search for wildlife that is more active at night such as leopard, genet and civet.

Full day excursion

They provide a great opportunity to take in the full diversity of the park. Departure is after breakfast and return is at sunset, with a packed lunch and refreshments. The camp has knowledgeable guides that will take you along the Kasha, Kanyele, Kaunga and Nkala drainage lines and you will stop at the Elephant Orphanage Project, supported by the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation, to see orphaned babies elephants being fed by their handlers. A Lake Itezhi-Tezhi lakeshore drive will introduce you to the amazing beauty of this man-made lake, which is well populated with hippo. The excursion ends with a drive through the mysterious Ngoma Forest before returning to the camp across the Nanzhila Plains.

Village tour

Learn about the day to day lives of people in typical rural communities. Visit a local clinic and school, as well as one of the earliest mission stations north of the Zambezi, and find out how local people interact with wildlife and carry out traditional fishing expeditions. This tour also encompasses game viewing.
