Educore Teacher's Academy

Educore uses the schools to train local trainees who will ultimately replace those that are non-Zambians. Each year a cohort of newly qualified Educore Academy trainees are employed. Their mode of delivery is practised based with all trainees acting as classroom assistants in their placement classes. Currently the Educore Teacher's Academy provides training for two qualifications including: Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning - participants must have gained a degree in either a maths or science related discipline in order to qualify. The duration of the training is 1 year followed by a year employed as a newly qualified teacher (NQT). Primary Teachers Diploma - participants must be in possession of a quality grade 12 certificate with at least a merit in English, Maths and Science. The duration of the programme is 2 years. The aims in teacher training are threefold:

• To improve educational attainment in schools
• To reduce the 'brain drain' of Zambian talent out of the country
• To engender an outcome based active learning methodology

Trainees are provided with mentors and guidance materials to help them engage in learning about teaching through experience in the classroom. Attendance at weekly pedagogy lectures is compulsory and assessment is through continuous assessment. Each year a new cohort of new trainees are recruited in August to begin their training in the following January.
