Chundukwa River Lodge

The family cottage has 1 double room with ensuite bathroom, one twin or double room, one small kids room with bunkbeds which can be exchanged for a single bed. These two rooms share a bathroom. There is an open plan lounge kitchen area with big wooden doors that open onto a large covered verandah, with an adjoining plunge pool and deck.

A small team consisting of a cook, waiter and housekeeper will be available to prepare your meals and take care of you. Chundukwa Lodge takes a maximum of 12 guests. The private cottage sleeps six people and caters for those who want to experience a holiday home on the Zambezi River.

An afternoon river cruise is the perfect way to enjoy Africa's spectacular sunsets. With hippo grunting and campfire glowing, each day comes to an end with a uniquely African ambience.

The lounge dining area is a perfect place to relax, put your feet up and enjoy the view. If you want to catch up on emails, this is where the 'WiFi hotspot' is.

Trock plunge pool is perfect for a cool down in hot weather. You can stroll around the dams and find a resting place under the thatch of trees to read a book, take photographs, bird watch…paint…

The lodge is on a 300 acre property consisting of riverine forest, mopane and teak woodland. This is shared by the elephants in the dry months of May to November and our horses that are stabled nearby. You are welcome to walk, explore and enjoy the animals accompanied by one of our team to ensure your safety.

Chundukwa has a heart for home-cooking using as much local produce from our own vegetable garden, if the elephants don't eat it first, and the neighbouring farms. Chundukwa will cater for special dietary requirements given ample warning – seven days at least, to source appropriate ingredients for you.

Join fellow travellers around the fire side, share a dinner or dine privately, star gaze with a night cap or hot chocolate and listen to the night sounds.

The sounds of hyena, lion, black backed jackal, zebra etc drift across the river from the Zambezi National Park on the Zimbabwean side. We also have resident pairs of Wood Owl and Giant Eagle Owl whose calls to one another go on through the night.

Tea or coffee are served in your rooms in the mornings in good traditional Zambian style. If you look out over your deck you may see the African Finfoot swimming by…

Laundry is free!

Livingstone Island walk or boat trip from September to December with a swim in the Devil's Armchair or a rhino walk and afternoon canoe trip. Chobe National Park day trip, game viewing by road and river in Botswana or white water rafting trip on the Zambezi below the falls and a village walk before departure.
