Situated in Zambia's Lower Zambezi, Chongwe River Camp is one of the oldest and most established camps in the area, with over 16 years of experience. The proprietors of Chongwe River Camp, the Dalais family, are now part owners of the prestigious Norman Carr Safaris and though Chongwe River Camp will maintain its separate identity, this partnership promises to take further enhance the camp.

Chongwe River Camp offers an interesting variety of accommodation options to suit every need. Chongwe River Camp offers a tranquil environment where guests can unwind and truly relax, blending in with nature to create an oasis of calm.
Classic tents
Chongwe River Camp offers exclusive accommodation with nine standard tents. Each of the tents has a thatched roof ensuring coolness in the heat of the day.
The tents are airy and spacious with simple, yet elegant decor that consists of hand crafted furniture. There is a choice of a king-size, double or two singles bed options. Each tent has a large outdoor bathroom, toilet and shower with both hot and cold running water. Private veranda's overlooking the river offer incredible views of Zambia's wonderful wilderness.
Albida Suite
Ideal for families and friends travelling together, the Albida Suite is a luxurious self-contained colonial-style tented suite. It sleeps four guests in two spacious, octagonal bedrooms set on either side.
The suite has a private dining room and lounge area with its own bar fridge, plunge pool and fire pit. The Albida Suite has its own butler and meals can be taken at the main camp or in private in the Suite's dining area. The Albida Suite has outside bathrooms, laid out beneath their own tented canopy, twin vanity units, shower, ball and claw bath and toilet. Its decor combines colourful African textiles with Victorian-style silverware, rich hardwoods and plush, overstuffed couches.
Cassia Suite
Perfect for honeymooners or romantic couples, the Cassia Suite is a private, luxury tented Suite for two. Located on the banks of the Zambezi River the Cassia tent has the same facilities as the Albida Suite. It differs in terms of its decor which in this case is a fusion of organic and colonial pieces.
Chongwe River House
Located on the banks of the magical Chongwe River with spectacular views of a dramatic mountainous escarpment, Chongwe River House is an ideal safari base for groups such as family and friends. The Chongwe River House sleeps up to eight guests in four spacious, en-suite bedrooms. It comes fully staffed with a guide, house manager and private chef – all of whom will tailor your private safari.
Tsiki Island
Tsiki Island is a recent addition to the Chongwe River Camp. It is an exclusive bush camp consisting of three chalets and a camp site. It features an option of a two to five day canoe safari along the Zambezi River. Located about 35 kilometres upstream from Chongwe, close to the village of Mugurumeno, Tsika Island Bush Camp can accommodate six guests in the three chalets, each with en-suite facilities.
Tsika Island is a community partnership project and combines the canoeing safari with an authentic cultural experience, offering visits to the Mugurumeno Basic School and the cultural village on the nearby mainland.
Kasaka River Lodge
Nestled on the banks of the Zambezi River in the Chiawa Game Management area, the Kasaka River Lodge is a 20 bed luxury tented camp offering an authentic and memorable safari experience. The lodge is set in a natural bush environment. Each chalet is secluded amongst the native flora. The lodge is only four kilometres by road from the Lower Zambezi National Park and the famed Mana Pools Heritage Site in Zimbabwe lies on the other side of the Zambezi River.
Activities
The Lower Zambezi is renowned throughout Africa for its magnificent Zambian wildlife. It is home to all of major species in the valley with excellent sightings of elephant, buffalo, lion and a regular occurrence of leopard. Birdlife in the area is also outstanding, making this a real hotspot for ornithologists.
At Chongwe River Camp, activities are tailored to make the most of this incredibly diverse wilderness. Activities include game viewing, canoeing and walking and fishing is also on offer. Game drives are offered in either the Lower Zambezi National Park or the Chiawa Partnership Park. Game viewing is also available on a boat cruise along the Zambezi River.
