Finance Minister Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane is demands K50 million and unqualified apology from Lumezi Independent Member of Parliament Munir Zulu over his alleged defamatory statement accusing Dr Musokotwane of having received a bribe.
Dr Musokotwane is also demanding the immediate retraction of the defamatory statement in its entirety within 24 Hours.
This is according to a demand letter by the Minister’s Lawyers, Keith Mweemba and Company, dated 24th March 2023 and received by Mr. Zulu’s Lawyers, Messer’s Makebi Zulu & Co, on Wednesday, 29th March 2023.
In a related development, the Community Action Against Corruption says President Hakainde Hichilema's recent statement against Lumezi Member of Parliament Munir Zulu was too suggestive and intimidating to both Mr. Zulu and Institutions handling his corruption revelation case.
President Hichilema recently encouraged his Ministers of Finance and Infrastructure to sue Mr. Zulu who he said was a mischievous individual who tries to destroy innocent people.
Organisation Chief Executive Officer Brightone Tembo said Mr. Zulu is at the moment regarded as a Whistleblower hence the President was expected to remain silent on the matter, even when he knew his Ministers were innocent.
Mr. Tembo said President Hichilema's sentiments have already put a lot of executive pressure on all the people and Institutions handling Mr. Zulu's corruption allegations case.
And Council of Churches in Zambia General Secretary Father Emmanuel Chikoya says the police should do their job professionally and avoid shielding those alleged to have been involved in corrupt practices.
