ISL welcomes Dr Liam Hammer as new Head of School

The Board of Governors is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Liam Hammer as their new Head of School effective August 2023, at the start of the next academic year.

Dr. Hammer is from Melbourne, Australia. He holds educational qualifications from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Macquarie University, and the University of Melbourne, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Wilkes University. As an educator who models lifelong learning, he is now pursuing an MBA from the University of West Scotland.

Over the last twenty-plus years, Dr. Hammer has led international schools with diverse communities, from Albania to Thailand. He has overseen the implementation of numerous curricula such as the International Baccalaureate (IB), Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), and International Primary Curriculum (IPC).

Dr. Hammer has undertaken external evaluations and consultations for many international schools as well as presenting and leading workshops at conferences in Australia, Asia, and Europe. He is also an experienced school evaluator for the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

Founded in 1963, the well-established International School of Lusaka is one of the oldest international schools on the African continent, and is currently the third largest school in the Association of International Schools in Africa.
